Buyer picks up ‘totally unique’ £12.5mn townhouse in St John’s Wood

Full Article

Grade II listed property on Hamilton Terrace dates back to 1830 and was once the home of Scottish painter and printmaker William Strang.

A noteworthy townhouse in St John’s Wood has found a taker after hitting the market last year. The Grade II listed, 6,172 sq ft property on Hamilton Terrace dates back to 1830 and was once the home of Scottish painter and printmaker William Strang, famed for illustrating the works of Bunyan, Coleridge and Kipling. A recent overhaul saw the original artist’s studio incorporated into the main house, creating a 50 ft kitchen and barrel-vaulted living space that opens straight out onto the garden. The full-floor principal suite is worthy of special mention, and the former owners also installed a full set of leisure facilities including a cinema, gym, showers and treatment areas. A 1,227 sq ft mews house with a separate address on Hamilton Close came as part of the package. Locally-based agency Ian Green Residential did the deal, describing the property as “totally unique”; the guide price was £12.5mn.
